It is not only a blue-light problem

Nighttime light can affect the body clock, but real phone use adds other factors. Video or messages may delay bedtime, work can maintain vigilance, and social interaction can keep thought active after the screen is off.

Changing the display to a warmer color therefore cannot remove every effect of pre-sleep screen use. Night Shift may feel less harsh, but it does not stop scrolling or reduce the arousal of an urgent work message.

Change the way the screen is used

Set a specific stopping point

Use a time or event boundary, such as: "After setting the alarm, I will not reopen social or work apps." A concrete rule is easier to follow than waiting until it feels late enough.

Lower brightness and increase distance

A very bright display in a dark room creates strong contrast. Lowering brightness, using a warmer setting, and moving the screen farther away are simple but limited improvements.

Make the last interaction finite

If you need a phone for audio or ZzzDeck, complete setup and put the phone down. The final interaction should have an ending instead of leading back into infinite content.

Not all screen use is equivalent

A short family call or fixed audio track asks something different of attention than replying to work or watching emotional short-form video. Ask three questions together: how bright is the display, how long are you using it, and what is the content asking your brain to do?

If sleep trouble continues, do not assign the entire cause to blue light. Schedule, caffeine, stress, environment, and health may also need attention.
